Why This Adventure is for Your Soul
This trip offers a unique opportunity to escape the daily grind and immerse yourself in nature. You'll breathe fresh air, take in the scents of the land, and reconnect with the natural world. It's an experience that awakens something deep within, allowing you to live and breathe, not just exist between home and work.
Western Nebraska's Unique Beauty
The adventure focuses on the stunning landscapes of Western Nebraska, including:
The Grasslands:
Experience a journey back in time at Toadstool Geologic Park, where the vast grasslands stretch out with knee-high or taller grass. The wind rippling across the vibrant yellows and greens, set against a backdrop of bluffs and Badlands-esque rock formations, creates an unparalleled visual experience. You can easily imagine what early settlers and native peoples witnessed.
Smiley Canyon:
Venture into Smiley Canyon to photograph free-range buffalo without the typical crowds or artificial barriers like fences. This sparsely traveled area offers unique, intimate encounters with wildlife, unlike more crowded parks.
Iconic Landmarks:
The itinerary includes visits to classic Nebraska icons like Chimney Rock and Scott's Bluff, providing opportunities to capture stunning shots of these historical formations, especially during golden hour.
The Fort Robinson Experience
Your base for this adventure is Fort Robinson State Park, where you'll stay in comfortable bungalows, each with a queen-size bed. The experience goes beyond photography with:
Personalized Meals:
The organizer will cook breakfast and dinner daily in the communal kitchens, creating a shared and comfortable atmosphere.
Night Photography:
Fort Robinson boasts minimal light pollution, making it an ideal location for astrophotography and capturing the stars. So bring your tripods!.
Park Amenities:
While some amenities like the pool may be closed, you can still explore the grounds, visit the museum with its mammoth exhibit, and photograph an old homestead. The bluffs are easily accessible for short walks or even ATV rides (rentals available).
Relaxation Time:
The itinerary is designed with a mid-day rest period, allowing participants to relax, explore independently, or even take a nap, ensuring a comfortable pace for everyone, especially older photographers.

This adventure is open to photographers of all skill levels, from those shooting on phone cameras to those with professional gear. The focus is on camaraderie, shared learning, and mutual support.
